Work on creating brand new and modern toilet facilities at Emery Gate Shopping Centre starts today, with the grand unveiling planned in just five weeks time.

The project marks a significant investment from landlords Eagle One that will see the facilities upgraded to meet the demands of the 4 million visitors the shopping centre attracts each year.

Commenting on the project, Emery Gate Centre Manager, Nicola Milne, said "We can't wait for the refurbishment to be completed and hope the closure causes as little disruption as possible for our shoppers. We will be hiring portable toilets for the duration of the works, situated in the car park, outside the Tesco doors.  Alternative toilets can also be found at the Town Council building on the High Street, Bath Road car park and the Bus Station".

Brand new independent men's fashion store opens in Chippenham

Outfit78 is the new independent men’s fashion brand in Chippenham.  It’s fresh, new and brings some of the best labels to the Wiltshire men’s fashion scene.

It's old fashioned values are rooted in the store's predecessor, Peter Emms, who had been loyally serving the local community for nearly 40 years. Peter Emms retired earlier this year, and his store has been taken over by local man Aaron Gale. Aaron is keen to retain the essence of Peter Emms, in providing a friendly, trustworthy customer service along with the best labels that only an independent retailer can offer.

It’s been quite a story for Aaron, who, as a young man, used to work Saturdays in the store and now finds himself heading up and running the Outfit78 brand.

The new venture heralds a bright new future for Aaron, who has had to overcome adversity in recent years.  Aaron was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer in May 2013, there followed surgery and months of chemotherapy. He has now been in remission for 3 years and after a long wait even managed to beat the odds by adding to his cherished family, when his second child arrived in April last year.

Commenting on his new venture, Aaron said “It’s been bittersweet for me, like so many other men in Chippenham I have been a loyal customer to Peter Emms over the years, it’s sad to see him retire. But in the same breath, I’m very excited and can’t wait to put my own stamp on the store and am looking forward to getting to know all of our current and new customers”.

Outfit78 have already been busy, working on bringing in new brands to join their in-demand labels such as Lyle & Scott, Luke1977, Gym King and 11 Degrees.

You can find the store in Emery Gate Shopping Centre, close to the High Street entrance in the centre of Chippenham.

You can follow Outfit78's Facebook page to keep up-to-date with the latest fashion arrivals

Meet the Easter Bunny at Emery Gate Shopping Centre!

We have teamed up with Chippenham Connected to bring families the chance to meet the Easter Bunny – right in the heart of Emery Gate.

That’s right folks – the Easter Bunny is taking some time out of his busy schedule to hop along to Chippenham on Saturday 15th April and join the Mad Hatter & Friends in the Town Centre. He will be meeting boys and girls between 11:30am and 3:30pm, presenting them with a delicious chocolate egg*. You’ll also have the chance to have your photo taken with the busy bunny too, so don’t forget to bring a camera or snap the moment on your smartphone!

Nicola Milne, Emery Gate Shopping Manager, is as excited as we are about the prospect of meeting the Easter Bunny:

“Bringing the Easter Bunny to Emery Gate will be great fun and we can’t wait to see the children’s faces on the day. Easter is a time for celebration and we hope this kick-starts the holiday nicely for everyone to enjoy!”

This completely FREE event is brought to you by Chippenham Connected and Emery Gate Shopping Centre. There will also be the opportunity to create your very own Easter egg with a little chick, and enjoy other Easter crafts within the shopping centre.

Simon Philpott, Chippenham Connected Manager, said:

“I am excited that we are putting Easter firmly back in the calendar by making it the focal point of one of our major events this year. Our goal is to create a festival atmosphere for our town that will last throughout the year as we deliver many more events like this.”

Not only is the Easter Bunny visiting Chippenham, we also have the Mad Hatter and his friends taking over the Market Place for a tea party with a twist, with Easter activities at Borough Parade, throughout Chippenham’s High Street, New Road and Hathaway Retail park – including some cute live bunnies at Jollyes Petfood Superstore.

Winners of ‘Faces of Emery Gate’ competition announced

Emery Gate Shopping Centre is delighted to announce the winners of our 2016 Faces of Emery Gate modelling competition.

The winners are Kyle Reynolds, aged 19 from Poplar College, local mum-of-two Rachael Martin, from Chippenham and Becky Holdsworth, a 23-year-old Chippenham native who has recently returned to her hometown after finishing her Master’s degree at King’s College, London.

As part of the prize, the trio enjoyed a professional photo shoot, a professional make over and took home £300 of high street shopping vouchers. The three winners will also have their images used in advertising campaigns across the centre over the next 12 months.

Winning the competition was especially sweet for Kyle, who was diagnosed with global developmental delay as a youngster and has undergone a number of operations to try to alleviate a variety of significant health issues such as curvature of the spine. Kyle attends Poplar College, a Special Education School for pupils up the age of 19 who live with a variety of physical and mental challenges.

His mum, Victoria Reynolds explained: “Kyle has been through so much in his lifetime. He was pronounced dead twice on the operating table and even had to learn to walk again after being in a wheelchair for four years  – when he took that first step it felt like a miracle.

“I’m certainly not surprised he’s won this competition though as he’s quite the go getter and never lets anything stop him. And now he can add ‘award winning model’ to his list of achievements.”

Phil Maclean, Retail Marketing Manager of Emery Gate Shopping Centre added: “We’ve absolutely loved running this competition and picking just three people to be the faces of Emery Gate was certainly no mean feat.

“We wanted to encourage a broad cross section of the local people to apply, whether young or old, disabled or able-bodied and of any background and that’s exactly what we got. Our winners are all great and shoppers can expect to see them strutting their stuff in our adverts very soon!”

Emery Gate Santa goes back to school!

Emery Gate’s resident Santa, Nigel Ingles, went back to school this week to learn Christmas themed Makaton sign language.

The Bristol-based course, run by Better Communication Bristol, taught Santa’s from throughout the region, both a greater understanding of the communication challenges some children face in public situations and a bank of basic signs and symbols.  With Emery Gate’s Christmas Grotto set to start on the 25th November, Santa was also equipped with the necessary Christmas themed signs to make the grotto experience as enjoy as possible for all children.

Phil Maclean, Retail Marketing Manager at Emery Gate, said ‘Every child needs to tell Santa what they’d like in their stockings, learning some basic signs can transform a grotto experience for a child with communication difficulties and we hope this will go a small way to do that. We are so grateful to Nigel for making such an effort after all these years away from the classroom!”.

Makaton is a language programme designed to provide a means of communication to individuals who cannot communicate efficiently by speaking. The Makaton language programme has been effectively used with individuals who have cognitive impairments, Autism, Down Syndrome, specific language impairment, multisensory impairment and acquired neurological disorders that have negatively affected the ability to communicate, including stroke patients.

The annual Emery Gate Christmas Grotto is set to start on 25th November with all profits donated to local causes. Last year Emery Gate used its profits to exclusively hire Europe’s largest trampoline park, Airhop in Bristol, for students from Poplar College, Chippenham to enjoy.

Emery Gate smash fundraising target for Wiltshire Air Ambulance

We made it! after bucket collections, cake sales, raffles and entertainment throughout the year, and of course, the White Horse Challenge - which took us on a 52 mile walk across the 'White Horses' back in July. What was it all for, we hear you ask? Why - for Wiltshire Air Ambulance of course - and we are delighted to announce we smashed our target of £8904... with four months still to go!

This specific target was set to provide enough funding to keep the air ambulance flying for one day!

Raising awareness and funds for Wiltshire Air Ambulance is also extremely important to a great deal of people within the Wiltshire area and beyond. Kenresa Stratford, Fundraising Co-ordinator at Wiltshire Air Ambulance said: “We are extremely pleased to be working with Emery Gate Shopping Centre, the effort that has gone into their fundraising has been really extraordinary. As a charity, we need to raise £3.25 million a year to keep flying and saving lives, relying almost entirely on the support of the community and businesses of Wiltshire. Emery Gate nominates Wiltshire Air Ambulance

Today, Emery Gate announced Wiltshire Air Ambulance as its nominated charity for 2016.

Staff members of the Emery Gate Shopping Centre Management Office will take on a 52 mile walk around seven of Wiltshire's White Horses. Beginning on the 9th July 2016 in Devizes and ending in Marlborough, the team will take on the Great British weather as they hike the beautiful Wiltshire land on day one; with day two taking on a reversal role by starting in Marlborough and ending back in Devizes for the last leg of the challenge.

This fantastic fundraising event is all in aid of Wiltshire Air Ambulance, who rely almost entirely on public donations to keep flying and do not receive central government funding. They have helped many people around the Wiltshire area in need of hopsitalisation and have even helped emergency cases reach special care in a matter of minutes.

Nicola Milne of Emery Gate Management has said: "We have set a group target of £5000.  We have already started bucket collections for the WAA and are currently working on other ways to collect donations for them.”

Initiatives and events start this coming Monday 4th April between 11am - 3pm with local child entertainer Dave Hickory kindly donating his time for the cause. Make sure you pop in to say hello to Dave who will be wowing the Easter Holiday crowds with his balloon modelling skills.

Kenresa Stratford, Fundraising Co-ordinator at Wiltshire Air Ambulance said: “We are extremely pleased to be working with Emery Gate Shopping Centre, the effort that has gone into their fundraising in the short time they have been on board as a charity of the year partner has been really extraordinary. As a charity, we need to raise £3.25 million a year to keep flying and saving lives, relying almost entirely on the support of the community and businesses of Wiltshire. We’re grateful to Emery Gate for being so enthusiastic in their approach in supporting us and I’m looking forward to seeing what the coming months bring.”

Students at Poplar College, Chippenham, had a spring in their step this week when they enjoyed a day out at the world’s largest trampoline park, courtesy of Emery Gate Shopping Centre.

Using funds raised from its very successful Christmas Grotto, the shopping centre paid for the students from Poplar College, which caters for young adults with additional needs, to enjoy exclusive hire of AirHop Bristol. There, the students could bounce on one of 135 trampolines, play basketball or dodgeball or just enjoy the soft landing in the foam pit.

Some 100 students took part in the day out, which included students from New Fosseway school in Bristol. Staff from Eagle One, owners of Emery Gate who have their regional office in Bristol also went along to help out.

Discussing the day, Phil Maclean, Retail Marketing Manager of Emery Gate Shopping Centre, said: “Rather than just hand over a cheque, we wanted to do something really special and we thought a day out at AirHop Bristol would be perfect.

“All too often, young people with disabilities cannot enjoy the activities that their peers take for granted. For example, a day out at a busy venue like Air Hop Bristol just wouldn’t be possible for many of the students at Poplar College due to physical disabilities or sensory issues. By hiring the venue exclusively  we’ve enabled them to enjoy a stress-free day out. We’re delighted that the money raised at our Christmas Grotto could be used in this way.”

Sue Flavin, the Deputy Head of Poplar College, added: “What a great day! We all had so much fun at AirHop. Such a sense of freedom for our students to be able to bounce on the trampolines. All of our students enjoyed being there, whether they were on the trampolines, or watching from the gallery. We really appreciated the support given by staff from Eagle One and Emery Gate. And the delicious pizzas! It really was a momentous day for us.”
